Optimistic people reach their goals faster and more efficiently than anybody else. Borrow their tricks and see how they work for you. This four-step guide from Paula Davis-Laack, who is a stress and resilience expert and consultant, will help you move beyond the stress in your life and find success today.
Before you take any steps in reaching your goals, you want to begin relieving your stress. You start to do this when you write down your thoughts. “When you’re reeling during a big change, get your worst- and best-case scenarios down on paper. Doing so helps you see the situation more clearly and develop a plan.” This will help you to analyze where you stand in relation to your goal so that you can create a plan of action to reach your goal. Then, you can take the following four steps to accomplishing goals:
1) Look Ahead
To start reaching for a goal, you need to believe that you will be able to achieve it and that what is ahead in life is better than what is happening right now. Davis-Laack says, “First, (hopeful people) believe their future will be better than their present.” Tap into that optimism when you are stressed because it will help you clearly define where you want to go and give you something to look forward to when the chips are down and you feel unmotivated or discouraged.
2) Mental Strength
Second, channel your mental strength and remember that you can do anything you want to do with the right amount of energy and effort. “Second, they believe they have the power to direct how their life unfolds.” You don’t want other people making your decisions, and you don’t have to let them. Take control of your life and take control of your thoughts so that you can channel them towards success. You can do it.
3) Widen Your Reach
“Third, they realize there are many paths to their goals.” When you open your eyes and realize that there is not just one route to success, your life will suddenly start making a little bit more sense. The pain you have experienced in the path is essential to you gaining the strength you need now to reach for success. Widen your reach and think about your life experiences, and all of the opportunities that lay before you may suddenly start making sense in terms of helping you reach for your goal.
