Parenting can be incredibly difficult. There are countless opportunities to grow as a parent and nurture your child, but there are also countless opportunities where you fear you have gone wrong or made a mistake. However, in his video, Raising Positive Kids in a Negative World: A Different Kind of Love Story, Zig Ziglar emphasizes the importance of not letting these fears stop you from loving your child and finding happiness as a parent.
To begin with, “Love is the highest, the purest, most precious of all spiritual things.” At the end of the day, the true love you feel for your child is something that nobody can take from you. However, there will always be times when you become frustrated and temporarily forget the strength and the power of love. It is in these times when you occasionally make a mistake as a parent – you overreact or you do something you regret.
However, it is also in these times that you must remember that you can gain forgiveness from your child. Children and loved ones are most often “anxious to forgive – that’s what love is all about.” When you have wronged your child, you don’t have to suffer over the mistake that you made. Ziglar tells us that you can rectify the mistake, ask for forgiveness, and admit that what you did was wrong. You can take steps to recovering from parenting mistakes and you can take steps towards rebuilding trust and love with your child.
