Many people believe that their integrity is somehow compromised when they work in sales. They believe that they have to lie in order to get people to buy things, that they have to convince people of something that might not be true in order to make their ends meet. However, that is simply not true.
In a podcast titled Does how many you serve equal how much you make?, by Ziglar, Inc., Bob Burg discusses sales and ideas behind how you can be successful in sales. The basic concept to understand in sales is, “Selling, by definition, is simply discovering what somebody needs, wants or desires and helping them to get it.” When you take the time to fully understand the person and their needs, you are taking the time to raise your success and maintain your integrity. “We can shift our focus and focus totally on helping them and their needs,” and we will “find more success” because we will be catering to other people’s needs rather than those of our own.
What does this mean? “This means you can sell being who you are.”
You don’t have to sacrifice your integrity and resort to lies or cunning lines to convince people to buy your product. Rather, we figure out the needs of our prospect and how our product will fill those needs.
